Rotation & Storage Tips
- ✓ First In, First Out (FIFO). Always move newer purchases to the back and use oldest stock first. Date items with a marker when you buy them.
- ✓ Review every 6 months. Set a calendar reminder. Pull everything out, check dates, and update this sheet. Donate items expiring within 3 months if you can't use them.
- ✓ Storage conditions matter more than expiry dates. Cool, dark, and dry extends shelf life significantly. A root cellar or interior closet beats a hot garage by years.
- ✓ Aim for 30, 60, then 90 days of supply. Don't try to store a year's worth overnight. Build incrementally, one category at a time.
- ✓ Store what you actually eat. The best emergency food is food your family already knows and likes. Unfamiliar food causes stress during an already stressful situation.
